Ogden
The George E Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home is an 88,000 sq ft., skilled Nursing Home serving 120 veterans and veterans' spouses. The home is located on 13.5 acres at 1102 North 1200 West in Ogden, Utah. Construction of this "State of the art" skilled nursing facility was started in November 2008 and was completed in November 2009, the result of a very rigorous construction schedule.
The facility incorporates many elements of a new "Culture Change" philosophy featuring four separate veteran communities (buildings) in addition to a fifth building that houses all administrative and support services. Having the four communities creates a home-like atmosphere where the veterans feel an increased and enhanced sense of belonging and value. Each veteran community houses 30 resident rooms and is equipped with a game/common room, dining room and library.
The ribbon cutting ceremony was held on November 19th, 2009, followed by our first two veterans being admitted on January 26, 2010. As of August 27, 2010 we have 105 residents with all four communities in operation.
The State of Utah provided the initial funds to construct and open the facility. Equipment and furnishings were upgraded through generous support of the local community. The US Army Reserve donated land for the home adjacent to the Browning USAR Training Center.
A unique feature of the home's grounds will be the construction of the first Veterans' Tribute Tower west of the Mississippi. 
The tower is scheduled to be dedicated on Veterans' Day 2010. Donations for the tower construction are still needed.
