Veterans Advisory Council

The Advisory Council’s purpose is to advise the executive director of the Department of Veterans' Affairs on issues relating to veterans. The council consist of eleven voting members and one nonvoting member, including: five members appointed by the governor to serve four-year terms, four veterans at large; a representative from the Office of the Governor; the director of the VA Health Care System or his designee; the director of the VA Benefits Administration Regional Office in Salt Lake City, or his designee; a representative from the Veterans' Memorial Park Board for the duration of his appointment to the board; the commanders or their designees of the three largest veterans service organizations in the state. The executive director shall be a nonvoting member of the council.

This board meets the third Wednesday of every month

Salt Lake Veterans Home Advisory Board

Veterans' Nursing Home Advisory Board is a liaison between the residents, members of the public, and the administration of the home. The board shall interview candidates for the position of nursing home administrator and make a recommendation to the department. The Board consists of one resident of the home appointed by the governor; two members of the Veterans' Advisory Council, designated by the governor, one of which shall specifically be designated as the board's representative to the council; one veteran from the area in which the home is located appointed by the governor; one representative from the VA Health Care System, appointed by its director; one representative from the Department of Health, appointed by its executive director; and one representative from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs regional office. Members serve for four-year terms.

George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home

Cemetery Advisory Board

This Board serves as an advisory body to the Department of Veterans' Affairs on matters relating to the operation of a Veterans' cemetery and memorial park. The board consist of the following five members: one representative recommended by each of the state commanders of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Disabled American Veterans; the director of the Department of Veterans' Affairs; and one person not affiliated with any of the organizations.
