COVID-19 Education

Under current law, the VA will continue to provide student Education benefits if the student is taking classes.

Students receiving Veterans education benefits that were enrolled for resident courses that have changed to an online modality due to COVID-19 will receive the same monthly housing allowance (MHA) payments they received for resident training until Dec. 21 or the school re-opens. This includes non-college degree programs (certificate programs, licensure, etc.).

Students enrolled in schools that have closed temporarily due to COVID-19 (not offering any courses in any modality); will be paid for four weeks or to the end of the term, whichever is sooner.

Students receiving GI Bill benefits are not required to take any action. Benefits will continue automatically. VA will work closely with schools to ensure accurately certified enrollments and timely processing.

Students that become ill due to COVID-19 should contact their institution to report that he/she is unable to continue training because of COVID-19. Depending on the length of illness, the school will then follow internal policies to determine if a withdrawal or incomplete grade should be reported to VA.

Students with specific questions can contact the VA Education Call Center at 888-442-4551 between 6 a.m.-5 p.m. Mountain Time, Monday-Friday.
