The State of Utah has four beautiful veteran nursing homes to care for veterans that need long-term care. The state contracts with a private healthcare provider to manage and operate the homes. All four homes carry a 5-star rating by the Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services on their nursing home compare website.
In general, a veteran is eligible for admission to a veteran’s home if he/she served on active duty or deployed while serving in the reserves. There is no cost for veterans with a 70% or higher service-connected disability (SCD). For veterans with no SCD or an SCD that is less than 70%, the VA subsidizes the cost with a per diem of approximately $115.00 a day. Spouses of veterans and Gold Star Parents are also eligible for admission but the cost of care is not subsidized by the VA.
