FREE GUN SAFES FOR SERVICE MEMBERS, VETERANS, AND THEIR FAMILIES

*All safes have been distributed. If you are are in need of safe storage for your firearm, please reach out to your local health department for additional programs*

In an effort to address the risks associated with accessible lethal means during times of crisis, it is crucial to recognize the importance of reducing access to firearms, medications, alcohol, opioids, and sharp objects for individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts. By creating a greater time and distance barrier between those in crisis and these dangerous objects, we can significantly decrease the risk of suicide and save lives.

As part of the Governor's Challenge to Prevent Suicide, the state of Utah is taking proactive measures to provide assistance to service members, veterans, and their families (SMVF). As part of this initiative, The Utah Department of Veterans & Military Affairs, in partnership with the Utah Department of Health and Human Services and the Utah National Guard, is offering free gun safes to SMVF individuals who may need a secure storage solution for their handguns or long rifles.

Eligibility
1. Service member, Veteran or family member
2. Valid state-issued ID for access to NG sites (DoD ID card required for Hill AFB, National Guard Joint Forces Headquarters in Draper, and the Air National Guard air base)
*This is a confidential process. No personal information will be recorded.
