Laurie works to increase awareness of resources and programs that enhance the quality of life for Utah’s veteran and military communities. Prior to joining UDVMA, she owned and operated two rural weekly newspapers in Utah. Her career reflects a deep commitment to storytelling, community engagement, and the preservation of small-town journalism. Laurie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations and has completed coursework toward a Master of Public Administration at Idaho State University.

Before beginning her career in public service, Laurie dedicated her skills to community initiatives. She has served as President and long-time Board Member of the Friends of the Wasatch County Children’s Justice Center and is a two-time past President of the Utah Press Association. Laurie also takes pride in her strong military heritage—her grandfathers served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War, and her father, uncle, cousin, and nephew all served in the Utah National Guard.
